Chiasso, Switzerland July 30, 2010 - Allied Telesis has today launched the latest version of its operating system AlliedWare Plus. Based on an industry standard CLI, the 5.3.4 release offers enhanced network management features and improved resiliency while allowing better visibility into network traffic patterns as well as combating unauthorized network access.
Enterprises today need to ensure that networks are protected from unauthorized access and that data records are kept secure. Security features of the release such as Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) snooping allow the switch to keep a record of clients issued an IP address, ensuring that only authorized clients can access the network. This also provides a traceable history of traffic. DHCP snooping can be combined with other features such as Dynamic ARP Inspection for added security in Layer 2 switched networks and enhanced authentication.
Network managers can now get increased visibility into network usage and active routes no matter how complex the network, with support for industry standard sFlow technology. This allows network managers to statistically monitor the network performance at the user and application level, as well as at the bits and bytes level, AlliedWare Plus supports both VCStackTM for effortless stacking, and Fast Failover, enabling quick and seamless recovery in case of switch failure, designed to allow network managers to implement resilient networks to meet the growing demand for always-on applications.
Melvyn Wray, Senior VP of Product Marketing EMEA at Allied Telesis, commented, “This latest release of our AlliedWare Plus software is in keeping with the increasing complexity and size of modern networks. It allows network managers to not only improve security and the reliability of their networks, but it makes them easier to manage. On top of that, as a standards based OS, it is fully compatible with most other network equipment.”
AlliedWare Plus also fully supports IPv6 wirespeed forwarding, a key component as IPv4 space diminishes and IPv6 becomes more widespread. This feature allows AlliedWare Plus to deliver a future-proof solution while retaining support for existing IPv4 network equipment.
AlliedWare Plus 5.3.4 is now available on the AT-SBx908, the x900 series and the x600 series of switches. The software update also enables the switches to support the AT-XEM-2XP dual-port 10G expansion module, doubling their 10Gigabit capacity.
